today i decided to paint for fun.

i really enjoyed the master copy assignment we had to do for painting in first semester. so, in an attempt to get better at painting - and teach myself to like it a bit more - i decided to do another background. like i said, for fun. because i'm nuts.

once again, it's a samurai jack background.

because i love samurai jack. haha! i'd like to think i didn't do too shabby of a job on this guy. for some reason though, when i blow this up on my computer, the sun isn't two tones like i actually painted it. what up, scanner? why the hate?

the only reason i'm up is because i've mastered the fine art of lying so intensely that i've just managed to fool myself into believing that i would seriously go to sleep after just checking my emails.

damn you, past cat. damn you.

but i also managed to scan something to put up in here.

it's leroy - the lazy gator! so lazy that he isn't even finished! and the expression on the bottom is how i felt at work the other night - retarded.

with that, i bid you all adieu.

"It's been a long time since I've seen you smile."
so first semester is long gone and done.

over this marvelous break so far i've done - nothing. well, i drew a tad, but not as much as i should. part of my new year's resolution is to better myself in art - and not just by saying i will, but actually doing it. so, here's to a new year!

for now, here's my mastercopy project for painting. i'm not very good at painting, but that's also something i'd like to change over the course of this break/this next semester.

i will probably post something later on today, as well. i need to get into the full blown swing of updating regularly.

long time, no update.

here's some facial expressions to tie you lot over.

between you folks and m'self, i kind of feel like character design is my strong point in this program so far. but i have 3 and 1/2 more years to get better, so we'll see how things go.

besides dealing with school junk, i've been playing epic mickey. no, i haven't seen tangled. no, i'm not freaking out about it. yes, i do want the art book. but, above all that, i just want to play my vid'yuh games.

during the summer, cintia bought herself a new laptop.

she had this old laptop that weighed more than a bag of bricks and even worked less efficiently than the bag of said bricks. about a month ago, we decided to smash it up - mainly due to the grief it caused her throughout the years and for the sheer hell of it (mostly, on my part).

after doing so, a few of the keys to the keyboard popped out - and, if you know me well enough, surely you know that i'd be all over that. which i was.

so i picked out a few keys - with the help of the wonderful cintia - and stored them away.

cut to today when i pulled a toonie from my coin purse (yeah, i totally have a coin purse/pouch thing - best part is, it was totally my dad's, ha!) and found all the keys i took from that keyboard.

the keys?

i'm mailing these to someone. one day.

and with that, i give you this - my page turn!

yeah, i know that, in the middle of the turn, the page is clearly longer than the covers of the book - but whatever. i'm neither here nor there with my page turn, but would love some feedback.

i may have sorta, kind of, absolutely, disappeared for a while.

but i had good reason, i swear. i just need to think up of a convincing one - but, when i do, you'll all think it's a damned good reason.

in the meantime, here's some character poses i did for character design:

his name is dave. and he's a sheep shearer. he's dave the sheep shearer. he shears sheep. and he has an addiction. to shearing sheep - not crack cocaine.

oh. i totally forgot i could upload my videos here too.

these are my first animations - the bouncing ball, bowling ball, balloon and pendulum. the bowling ball is a little faulty. i'm not too happy with it, but at least i can go back and play around with it sometime when i have free time - meaning, never. because i will never have free time again. in fact, i'm updating this blog right now while saving children from a burning school. THAT is how little time i have.

woah. the cat signal's up in the sky. gotta go do...something else!

"There's this boy I like - met him at the food court. He has hair like Gretzky and he does jumps on his skateboard."

today i got a new haircut.

so i figured it be a good day to update with a new post.

here's a bunch of random things from my sketchbook.

these two are rough ideas for a story i've been thinking about for a while.

same thing. just so we're all aware, i've got many stories stored up in my head.

this guy didn't scan all too well. but he was a character i designed for layout. you read that right - a character for layout. if you think that doesn't make too much sense, you're not the only one.

nothing too profound. i'd love to update with something brilliantly amazing - like something digitally painted or some other junk. but, sadly, i'm not at that skill level just yet. and, on top of that, i know nothing about photoshop.

but, one day, i will.

life drawing today taught me something very important.

...i really need to get better in life drawing. you know you need to kick it into gear when your instructor says, "oohh, yeah, you need to have the reference sheets next to you."

hello, epic fail.

oh well. as someone very wise has recently said to me, "you need to stop telling yourself you want to improve and simply tell yourself that you ARE improving. art is something that takes time and trial and error and frustration to get better at. a negative attitude towards yourself won't help." with that in mind, i'll take my experience in life drawing today and try to mold it into something to simply learn from.

nowhere to go from here but up, right?

hopefully, in four years time, i'll be able to come back to the beginning of this blog and say to myself, "woah. i've improved in exponential amounts. that's awesome."

anyways. since i still haven't got all too much to share, here are the room drawings from my portfolio since, well, i have them all nicely scanned and conveniently ready on my laptop.

maybe i lied.

here's some more character stuff.

i made this guy for character design for my first character rotation. the copy and paste job in photoshop is a bit botched since, well, i'm not at all too familiar photoshop just yet. hopefully, that will change soon.

redardless, here's ed.

"I bake cupcakes for the army."

i've been watching people's blogs for quite a while now. i never really felt the need to make one myself since, well, i never really had anything to put into it before.

seeing how i'm now in animation, i decided to use that as my motivation to start blogging - and, hopefully, upkeep with it.

i don't have anything thrilling or exciting to share just yet, but i figured i could put up my character from my portfolio since, well, he was a rad little guy. enjoy.
